Sgt. Rogers confessed of killing Kudirat -Utomi

Public affairs analyst and former Presidential candidate, Professor Pat Utomi, has insisted that it was evidently clear and unambiguous that a former security officer attached to the Presidential villa, Banabas Jabila (alias Sgt. Rogers), confessed to pulling the trigger of the gun that killed Kudirat Abiola.

Sgt. Rogers was a member of Strike Force (SF) and Body Guard (BG), two special military squads, which were used by Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, to protect the seat of power.

Al-Mustapha was recently freed by the Court of Appeal in Lagos of complicity in the murder of Kudirat Abiola, wife of the late winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election.

The Appeal Court had based its judgment on the ground that Sgt. Rogers and another SF and BG member, Mohammed Abdul (alias Katako),  had recanted their testimonies to the fact that they were sent by Al-Mustapha to execute Kudirat.

But Utomi, in a comment on his social media page, said nothing could controvert the fact that Sgt. Rogers publicly told Nigerians that Al-Mustapha ordered and provided logistics for the execution of Kudirat.

He said: “The issue of who killed the late heroine of democracy should not be so hard to decipher, particularly when you consider that Sergeant Rogers, a man who worked as a security agent right at the Presidential Villa Abuja, publicly and on camera, confessed to pulling the trigger of the gun that killed her. Who ordered him to do it,” Utomi queried.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government will on Wednesday, make its decision on the next line of action known.

The state was the prosecuting authority as the crime was committed on the streets on June 4, 1996.
