Gov Amaechi’ll Not Be Distracted

The Rivers State government has said that the provocative attitude of the opposition towards Governor Chibuike  Amaechi will not divert his attention from the development agenda of his administration.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sir Tony Okocha, stated this, yesterday, in PortHarcourt when the Ekinigbo Clan Council of Chiefs, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area paid him a solidarity visit.

He also decried the failure of the Nigeria Police to invite the Minister Of State for Education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike for questioning over his threat to make the state ungovernable.

Okocha pledged Gov Amaechi’s commitment to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state and added, “We will refuse to be deterred. The governor will not lose focus because of what is going on. His mission is to better the lives of our people; to put smiles on the faces of our people; to develop our people rapidly in a manner that nobody else was able to do in the state. “Before the end of this month, we will be on the streets commissioning projects so that Nigerians will know what projects the governor has been able to execute in Rivers State.

“I am aware of the fervent prayers of the chiefs concerning the ‘madness’ of disgruntled elements of Rivers state who, like Prof Tam David West would say, have refused to see the good works of the Governor and his administration.”

The chief of staff, who assured that the antics of the opposition would fail and lamented their unsuccessful gang-up against the governor for their personal interests, thanked the chiefs for their support and prayers for the Amaechi administration. This was just as he noted that the governor had the people’s mandate to protect lives and property of all Rivers people.

He, however, expressed disappointment that the governor was being disparaged for taking steps against the attempted ceding of oil wells in the state to other neighbouring states.

Okocha bemoaned the latest cases of kidnapping and armed robbery which he said resurfaced because the police compromised the security of the state.

Describing Wike as an ingrate, the chief of staff also blamed the minister for failing to protect the interests of the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekinigbo Council of Chiefs, Chief Kinikanwo Owhonda assured the Chief of Staff of their unflinching support for Gov Amaechi.
