THE eldest daughter of the late Chief James Ajibola Ige, the nation’s erstwhile Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice who was murdered in December 2001 by unknown gunmen, Funso Adegbola, Friday declared that the family’s hope for judgment lies with God.
Funso, who spoke against the backdrop of the court’s discharge and acquittal of Major Al Mustapha and Lateef Sofolahan over the conspiracy and murder of Kudirat Abiola, said what they are asking for at this point in time is justice from God.
She said: “I feel sad for Kudirat Abiola’s family; I have an idea of how bad the situation is. The truth is that with our system as a nation, I do not think that we can ever get justice. God said in his word that vengeance is mine and at his own time, he would avenge for us.
“We are not asking for revenge, what we look forward to is justice from God. We leave the killers to God and at the appropriate time, he would bring them to book.”
She, however, lamented a situation where some people kill and get away with it, adding, “this is a bad sign.”
On the justice system, Funso said the judges are human beings and as such they are not infallible.
“It is only the government that can appeal and not the family. We believe that some people have something to benefit from our own pains. It is the system; even if they kill or jail the suspected killers, it still does not bring our parents back.
“Our hope is not in government; we are not looking up to any man but God for justice,” she stated.
