IT was a sad Eid-el-Fitri celebration in Akure the Ondo state capital as two persons were crushed to death by a lorry.
Saturday Vanguard gathered that the two deceased persons fell from a moving commercial motorcycle popularly known as Okada and were crushed by the on- coming lorry marked ONDO KA 737 FFN.
The Okada, according to report which was conveying them had an head on collision with another Okada along Araromi road just before the popular Ala Bridge.
The three passengers on one of the Okada including driver fell after the collision and the two deceased reportedly rolled under the on-coming lorry which crushed their heads.
Their brains were scattered on the road after the accident.
The driver of the Okada it was learnt jumped off the bike and escaped after the accident.
However the driver of the other Okada and his passenger were not injured in the accident which threw the community into mourning.
Eyewitness account said that the drivers of the two okadas were on top speed when the accident occurred.
The witness said that the Okada riders where carried away by the festivity.
According to him, the collision could have been avoided if they were not speeding.
He said that the deceased died on the spot because the on coming lorry too was speeding and it crushed them to death while the driver of one of the Okadas only had some bruises.
Sympathizers had to pack the scattered heads of the two deceased passengers before their bodies could be moved to the Akure Specialist Hospital Mortuary.
Men of FRSC have taken the corpses to state Hospital morgue.
Contacted, the image maker of the Police in the state Wole Ogodo confirmed the death of the two persons.
