Presidency Thanks APC For Acknowledging Jonathan's Leadership Qualities

The Presidency on Wednesday commended the magnanimity of the newly-registered All Progressives Congress (APC) for inviting President Goodluck Jonathan to join it, saying the invitation was the party's acknowledgment of Jonathan's sterling leadership qualities.

Responding to questions from State House correspondents on the invitation handed down to the president by interim national Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati said Jonathan and the entire presidency considered the invitation as a compliment.

Noting that the invitation by the party was a clear indication that the leaders of the opposition party were also aware of the fact that Jonathan was the best man for the job at present, Abati quickly ruled out the possibility of Jonathan joining the APC.

He sympathised with the party leaders for forming a party only to realise later that they did not have a credible candidate.

The presidential spokesman said, "What Chief Akande has said in essence is that President Jonathan is the best man for the job. They formed a party only to realise they don't have a candidate. We thank him for his acknowledgment of the President's leadership qualities, but he (the President) is happy where he is

"We thank Chief Akande for his expression of confidence in President Jonathan's credibility but the President is happy where he is, as a member and leader of the PDP to which he remains loyal, and under the umbrella of which he is leading a transformation agenda for the betterment of the lives of Nigerians."
