The Kwara State police command has arrested five officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state for allegedly siphoning petroleum products from a leaking NNPC pipeline.
The civil defence corps members were arrested at about 10pm on Wednesday at Asa dam area of Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
Spokesman of the state police command, Femi Fabode (DSP), who confirmed the development in Ilorin yesterday, said two civil defence corps members were drafted to the leaky NNPC pipeline to watch over it, but three others joined them to cart away already siphoned fuel in jerry cans.
He claimed that the NSCDC authority in the state had been informed of the arrest, adding that investigations had commenced on the matter.
However, the Kwara state commandant of NSCDC, Mr Yerima Gana, denied any knowledge of the development.
