NMEC, UNESCO To Train 4,107 Facilitators

As parts of efforts to reduce the number of illiterate people in the country, the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) have concluded arrangements to train a total of 4,107 facilitators across the country.


According to the Executive Secretary of NMEC, Alhaji Jubril Paiko, the training of the facilitators is a follow up to the National Training of Master Trainers in May this year where 407 staff were trained across the 36 states of the federation.

The planned training, Alhaji Paiko said is a state level during which a total of 111 facilitators per state would be trained.

The NMEC boss who reiterated that the Commission is more determined to reduce the number of illiterate people in the country by 25 per cent noted that the training of the facilitators which will commence on August 11 and end on August 18 nationwide is part of the effort to tackle illiteracy in the country.

“This training is in accordance with the 2013 National Action Plan on revitalising adult and youth literacy project (2012-2015) and beyond” he said.

Nigeria is a member of the E9 countries with the highest population of illiterate people in the world.
