News: Osun Police Arrest 12 Suspected Cultists During Meeting

Twelve suspected members of Alora Confraternity, otherwise known as Bulca, have been arrested by policemen during their meeting at a popular hotel in Osogbo, last Sunday.

The suspected cultists arrested were: Ibikunle Oluwatoyin, (28); Oyebode Gboyega (23); Asiru Olajide,(24); Idowu Adeleke,(19); Tella Kazeem,(26); Musefiu Akanji,(28) and Olanipekun Daniel,(20).

Others were: Samuel Femi (21); Ikuejamefo Michael (24); Ologun Sunday (27); Akanji Tobi,(28) and Akinmuyisitan Oluwaseun (27).
The suspects were allegedly caught with charms, three yellow beret caps, assorted charms and two yellow regalia robes.
Some invitation cards with the inscription: “Awumen another rugged sailing” with an axe logo and yellow stickers with similar axe logo were also found on them.

However, the accused persons have been charged to an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court on the charge of cultism and conspiracy on Monday.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Meriti Wilson, the alleged offence contravened sections 516 and 64 of the Criminal code cap 34 Vol. 11 laws of Osun 2003.

The suspects however entered a not-guilty plea to the two-count charge of cultism and conspiracy.
The defence counsel, Mr Abimbola Ige, applied for the bail of the accused persons in the most liberal terms, saying that the alleged offences were bailable.

Wilson, the police prosecutor, did not oppose the bail application.

Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Olusola Aluko of the court granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each.

Aluko then adjourned the case till August  20, 2013 for mention.
