The Theophilus Danjuma Foundation on Monday presented N101.6 million to eight non-governmental and community-based organisations working on various empowerment programmes.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, made the disclosure at a ceremony to present cheques to the beneficiaries in Abuja.

Danjuma said the objective of the award was to encourage the groups to continue to improve the lives of less- privileged Nigerians.

“This is one of three award ceremonies that shall be held this month for the presentation of cheques to 24 institutions whose project have been found worthy of support by the foundation.

“As a grant making foundation, these organisations form the bridge head of our ambition. Without them we cannot touch the lives of ordinary Nigerians everyday as I hope and dream,” he said.

He restated the commitment of the foundation to ensuring that all citizens had access to quality healthcare, education and equal opportunities to realise their potential.

Danjuma urged the beneficiaries to continue to work with passion as their way of giving back to a country that had invested in them.

The chairman also urged the media to support genuine development efforts and encourage a culture of giving and doing good by well-meaning citizens.

“I believe that no one is too small or too poor to give to another and none so big or rich as not to have a need that can be met by another,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the recipients, the Executive Director of Vantaged Teens Centre, Mrs Rhoda Bassey, said the grant would improve the centre’s intervention in health and education in rural areas.

Bassey appealed to philanthropists to emulate Danjuma by assisting less-privileged people with a view to reducing diseases and poverty in the country.
