Police foil robbery attempt, arrest suspect in Enugu

ENUGU – The police in Enugu, Sunday, foiled an armed robbery operation at Onyeama Hill along Enugu – Onitsha Expressway arresting one suspect who was wounded in a gun duel.


The arrested suspect identified as Monday Ogbodo, a native of Akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state and two others allegedly attacked one Albert Chinwuko while driving a Honda CRV with registration number AbJ 831 AA on the road Sunday morning.

The victim was said to have made a distress call which was promptly responded to by operatives of the Urban Patrol of the state police command, who rushed to the scene.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, said that the robbers engaged the patrol team in a gun battle during which one of the hoodlums was wounded and arrested.

He said that two other members of the gang escaped with severe bullet wounds while their colleague arrested claimed to be a Tinker at New market Enugu but residing at Iva Valley Enugu.

The PPRO said items recovered from the hoodlums included one locally-made pistol and two matches.

“Full scale investigations have commenced into the incident just as the state commissioner of police, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed, has applauded the efforts and gallantry of the operatives,” he said.

In his reaction,the victim, Albert Chinwuko thanked God and the police for their quick response to his distress call which made his rescue from the hands of the hoodlums possible.
