Police Foil Attempt To Dispossess Ex-Beauty Queen Of Car

A former Miss Nigeria, Feyi Sodipo, almost lost her car yesterday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to three persons who claimed to be police officers.

The suspects had allegedly wanted to retrieve a Hyundai saloon car donated to the ex-beauty queen as star prize by the Akwa Ibom State government.

But luck ran out of the suspects, two men and a female, when policemen attached to Governor Ibikunle Amosun foiled their attempt to  whisk the former beauty queen away at the Arcade Ground of the Ogun  State Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

It was learnt that the kidnapping operation failed when the victim’s mother, Mrs. Mary Sodipo, raised the alarm, which attracted scores of sympathizers and security operatives to the scene.

The suspects, who rode in a Honda Shuttle car marked Lagos KA 35 EKY, were subsequently arrested and taken to the Ibara Divisional Police Headquarters in Abeokuta.

Feyi won Miss Nigeria beauty pageant contest organized by Daily Times at the Eko  L’Meridian, Lagos in November 2011.

LEADERSHIP gathered that three people, who claimed to be security operatives working for  the organizers of the contest, had since been trailing her in a bid to retrieve the car from her.

It was learnt that the suspects coerced Feyi who they brought her in their vehicle from Lagos to Abeokuta, where they intended to retrieve the Akwa Ibom-donated Hyundai car with registration number Lagos GGE 354 AJ.

The failure of the suspects to identify themselves as policemen led security operatives at the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta to  apprehend them.

Narrating her ordeal to reporters, Feyi said the organizers of the beauty pageant contest had repeatedly chased and harassed her in a desperate attempt to force her to surrender the car she won in 2011.

Feyi, who disclosed that her tenure as Miss Nigeria ended in June, this year, said there was no indication in the contract she signed with the organizers that they would retrieve the car from her.

“They (organizers) have made so many promises that they didn’t keep and now the car that was given to me by Akwa Ibom State government, they wanted to collect from me.”
