Osun APC Decries Deportation Of Destitutes To Anambra

The State of Osun chapter of the newly-formed All Progressive Congress (APC) has decried the politicization of the 14 deported destitutes from Lagos to Anambra State by Governor Peter Obi and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Addressing a press conference at the party secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday, the acting APC chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, attributed the politicization of the destitutes’ deportation to the oncoming November 16 governorship election in the state.
Adebiyi said Obi’s foul cry on the deportation was to gain the sympathy of the people and particularly that of the Federal Government, adding that the governor was hitting up the polity unnecessary on the matter.

The acting APC chairman charged the people of Anambra and other Igbo to be responsible and objective by cross-checking facts before they make incisive statement that could cause disunity and ill-feelings between the Yoruba and thousands of Igbo living in Lagos.

According to Adebiyi, Lagos State was morally, constitutionally and authoritatively justified on the relocation of the destitutes to their indigenous state-Anambra, saying that such step was part of the rehabilitation and re-union exercise of the state government for the destitutes.

He accused Governor Obi of dereliction of duty in socio and welfare sector of governance, as he failed to cater for the rehabilitation of the destitutes when brought to Anambra.

Adebiyi disclosed that the Lagos State had written letter to the Anambra State government, informing it of the relocation of the destitutes who constituted public nuisance in the city, adding that the letter was equally replied by the latter.

The acting APC chair said Obi was playing politics with human lives and distorting facts on the deportation of the destitutes.

Corroborating Adelowo’s submissions, Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola on Youths, Sports and Special Needs, Mr Biyi Odunlade, said the deportation of the destitutes from Lagos to their indigenous states is not peculiar to Anambra State.

According Odunlalde, Osun had received 173 destitutes from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Ondo states from 2010 to 2013, stating that it is a routine administrative process for every state to send destitutes back to their families after taking care of them for so long.

Odunlalde stated that Osun government has rehabilitated 132 destitutes sent from neighbouring states, adding that some of them are now united with their families.

He revealed that the officials of the Ministry of Youths, Sports and Special Needs do go to any state to bring destitutes of Osun origin upon receiving letter from such state on the need to relocate destitutes of Osun origin to their state.

Odunlade stated that the Lagos State government needed to deport the destitutes of Anambra origin to the state, following their rehabilitation, adding that such step was taken to reunite the destitutes with their families.

He faulted the neglect of the destitutes by Anambra government, saying that it ought to have continued the rehabilitation of the destitutes and unite them with their families as being done by the government of the State of Osun.
