NDLEA impounds N137m cocaine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday, seized 12.455kilogrammes of cocaine, valued at N137m at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The amount was said to be the sum total of drugs seized from four suspects and those that were recovered from an abandoned shipment of flasks.

The cocaine, hidden in the flasks, was said to have originated from Panama, Central America on board a KLM flight.

NDLEA Airport commander, Mr Hamza Umar, confirming the arrests, gave the names of the four suspects as Onwuegbuaku Anselm, 35, Ifediora Obunike, 26, Ohaebosun Nickolas, 28, and Nwabueze Kansiriyochukwu, 31.

Umar said, “The suspects were caught attempting to import various quantities of cocaine into the country. Onwuegbuaku was found with 1.510kg of cociane, Ifediora had 1.070kg, Ohaebosun with 2.175kg,  and Nwabueze had 3.100kg in his possession.”

While Ohaebosun is said to trade in ladies clothes in Dakar, Senegal, other suspects are traders based in Nigeria.

NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Ahmadu Giade, commended the arrests and seizures.

He said,  “No drug cartel abandons drugs knowing how much they cost. Narcotics are very expensive and for drug traffickers to abandon their drugs shows the level of security alert at the nation’s entry points.

“The two abandoned cocaine seizures came from Panama. Both shipments are being investigated and we hope to get those that are behind the importations. All suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of our investigation.”
