Apparently disturbed by the outburst of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and others lacked integrity and probity in term of performance while in office, a political associate of the former vice president, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, has described the former president as a sycophant and hypocrite, who wants to divert attention from himself.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Jos, Ambassador Kwande, said the scenario the former president painted was like a case of a kettle calling pot black, adding that those who had studied his style of leadership and activities over the years were abreast with his antic of pulling others down to project himself as a saint.
He said: “Former President Obasanjo is a hypocrite and sychophant. Some of us, who have studied him over the years, including those who worked with him, know his antics. General Alabi Isama (retd), in his book captured it all; Nigerians should read the book to know the person of Obasanjo very well. The closer you are to Obasanjo, the more dangerous it becomes for you.”
He narrated that the former president was able to achieve some successes during his first term in office as a result of the efforts of the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, adding that Obasanjo spent his first term travelling about, while Atiku was saddled with the responsibility of governance.
According to him, when he decided to settle down to governance, things begun to nosedive and he started playing all manners of politics to stay afloat and his situation was further compounded by sychophants around him.
Ambassador Kwande, who said Obasanjo had no moral right to accuse anybody of corruption or lacking integrity, stated that his eight years administration were fraught with corrupt practices, adding that the presidential library, where governors and other public institutions were coerced to make donations to, was an example of corruption practices perpetuated.
“There is one tactic I have found Obasanjo employing all the time; he has this method of doing something wrong and accusing others of doing same.
“He tells lies always and should be ashamed of accusing anybody of corruption. He was a party to corruption, as the third term agenda he pursued was in itself corruption. Since he was unable to bastardise Atiku’s name while in power, he should leave him alone.
Atiku being president is not a matter of life and death,” he said.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland, therefore, challenged the former president to submit himself for probe and investigations.
