Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday apprehended a middle-aged man, Bashiru Ishola over alleged kidnap of three female children.
The suspect, a drummer in a local music band, who confessed to have committed the crime on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Okekere area of the state capital , said he was used by the devil.
According to sources the drummer’s victims are two girls from same parents including another six years old girl.
Parading the suspect before newsmen in Ilorin yesterday, the state commandant of the NSCDC , Yerima Gana, said the children were abducted by the suspect at Sheikh Kamaldeem street, OkeKere, Ilorin where he said the children had gone to partake in free distribution of cooked pap during the break of Ramadan by a Muslim cleric in the area
He said the suspect allegedly enticed the kids with soya beans cake, popularly called Beske, and a loaf of bread, before he took the three kids to Flower Garden area, a place that is about 20 kilometers away from where the kids had gone for free pap.
Gana said that some charms, wrapped with black and white thread was seen on the suspect when he was arrested.
He advised parents in the area to pay closer attention to their children so that they do not unnecessarily engage in any act that could take them far away from their sight. He said parental neglect was one of the major causes of children’s kidnap, rape or abuse.
When interviewed by journalists, the kidnap suspect confessed to the crime and begged for leniency, adding that it was the work of the devil.
