Keshi, Okoku, Odiye donate power generator to school

Ex-Eagles stars, Stephen Keshi, Paul Okoku and Godwin Odiye have donated a power generating set to St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, to power the computer systems which they gave their Alma Mater last year.


Disclosing this to Sports Vanguard, Okoku said the decision to donate the generator, which the trio pledged  when they were presenting  the computers, was made because of the poor state of electricity in the country, stressing that the computers when fully put into use, were going to fast track the academic development of the pupils in the school.

“During our presentation of computers last year September, the Mainland Secretary of Education, Mr. Lawrence Adebisi Adetona, requested for a generator. Instantly, Stephen Keshi was kind to respond on our behalf, with these words, ”we shall get you a generator”.

“I am happy to announce that we have delivered the generator worth N350,000 as promised to the school through the headmistress, Mrs. G.O. Jalekun. We are committed to putting smiles on the faces the pupils as we gradually redeem all our pledges to the school in the coming months”, added Okoku.

He said the road to the fulfillment of the generator pledge was fraught with many challenges.

“Keshi and I had planned to officially present the generator to the school on the 28th of December, 2012, before AFCON commenced in January of 2013. However, this did not come to fruition due to unforeseen circumstances.

Yet, and again, our attempt to present it right after AFCON was not feasible for obvious reasons. We had hoped to invite both the Lagos State Commissioners of Education and Sports.

On the generator donation, Keshi said “let the pupils and Mrs. Jalekun know that I appreciate all their prayers and that we are not done yet.

“Odiye, who resides in California, said, “It’s all about the kids and it feels good giving back to our Alma mater where it all started for us”.

Okoku said that it was noteworthy that the combined effort of Keshi, Odiye and himself was to give the pupils the opportunity to technology within reach, even when there is no electricity so they can achieve their academic goals without interruption.

“We understand too well the essence of combining education and sports. We are not done yet because this is a journey for these young kids that will culminate into adulthood and we wish to create a lasting memorable academic experience for them with a solid foundation”.
