Still basking in the euphoria of qualifying for the CAF African Nations Championship for the first time, Super Eagles’ striker, Alhaji Gero has declared that Nigeria can repeat the Nations Cup 2013 feat accomplished by the full fledged Super Eagles in South Africa.
The home-based Eagles edged out Cote d’ Ivoire 4-3 on aggregate to reach the final of the tournament after two unsuccessful qualification campaign.
Coach Stephen Keshi had led the Super Eagles to a successful run defeating Burkina Faso at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg to win their third Africa Cup of Nations title.
“I believe we are going to win the trophy because we have players in Nigeria who can become the best with the right motivation,” stated Gero.
“I don’t have any doubt in my mind that we will do well. Now that we have qualified, you are going to see how the players at home will take the competition.
“This is the opportunity we have been waiting for, and now that it has come, we are not going to let it go without the trophy resting in Nigeria.
“It was a good feeling beating a tough Ivorian side to participate in the CHAN competition for the first time. I knew that there was no way we were going to lose to the Elephants.
“We are going to prepare very well and with coach Stephen Keshi in charge, you can be sure we are on the right track.”
