The Nigerian Army wants the citizens’ contribution in the ongoing campaign against terrorism in the country, releasing several GSM numbers and e-mail addresses for people to reach out to the force.

Brig.-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, directors of Army Public Relations, who stated this at a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, urged the citizens to contribute to the campaign by giving information to the Nigerian Army Information Alert System.

The objective of the initiative, he said, was to aid the Army as well as other security agencies to overcome the threat of terrorism in the country.

He said, “Once more, let me assure all Nigerians that the Army will remain agile and proactive by continually enhancing her capability to preempt, dislocate, and disrupt the terrorism threat.

“This will be achieved through effective collaboration with other security agencies in order to defeat terrorists and other criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property of law abiding citizens.

“To this end, the Army calls for the support of all good citizens in its fight against terrorism by providing information through the NA alert system.”

Attahiru added that the force was taking proactive measures to ensure that terrorism did not spread to other parts of the country.

He explained that the recent arrest of suspected terrorists in Lagos was a confirmation of the vigilance and determination of Nigerians to prevent the scourge from spreading in the country.

Attahirupromised that the force would embark on a constant review of its “strategies toward greater sophistication in tackling the security challenges facing the country.”

He also said Lt. Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, chief of Army Staff, had commenced implementation of the Freedom of Information Act as enshrined in the FoI Act of 2011.

Attahiru said the Army had opened an office for the FoI Act to give the public access to the operations of the service.
