Allow Your Kids To Participate In Sports

Proprietress of Golden Bunch Schools, situated in Okota and Yaba, Lagos, Mrs Modupe Ogundimu has advised parents to encourage their children or wards to participate in sports related activities as they aspire for their academic excellence.

Mrs Ogundimu gave this piece of advice during the 10th anniversary of Golden bunch schools held at the University of Lagos Sports Centre, Akoka,  Lagos on Wednesday.

According to the educationist, the gains accruable to kids that participate in sporst are numerous contrary to some beliefs that such endeavour could hinder kids’ academic pursuits.

Mrs Ogundimu noted that research has shown that sports contribute to psychological well-being of human, kids inclusive, by reducing anxiety, depression and also enhancing self-esteem.

She said: “Sports have been shown to improve academics and lower school dropout. And, of course, sports develop the mind/body connection by strengthening the body and training the mind to use it for action and reaction.

“It also helps kids think critically and solve problems, build self-discipline, trust, respect for others, all of which form the foundation of character building.

“This is why I would implore parents to allow their kids to participate in sports related activities irrespective of their age and gender.”

A novelty match between Okota school and Yaba school ended 3-1 in favour of  students from Yaba.

Other events scheduled for this week in celebration of the anniversary include a science exhibition at the Golden Bunch School in Okota holding today, children fun day and custume day at the Okota school assembly hall on Friday.
