Sport: MILO Schools Tourney: Oladunjoye Tasks ISL To Retain Title

Following their maiden triumph in the 2013 MILO all secondary schools basketball championship, the Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye has tasked International School Lagos, ISL, to retain the title next year.

Mrs Oladunjoye made disclosure while receiving the triumphant ISL team in her office at the Lagos State secretariat in Alausa, Lagos on Wednesday.

On 6 July, 2013, inside the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos,  ISL coached by Ernest Ijeoma outdunked their opponents from St. Joseph Secondary School, Makurdi, Benue State by 57-49 points to win the championship for the first time.

According to the commissioner, L agos state’s failure to win the all secondary schools basketball competition since its inception 15 years ago was not due to lack of quality players but because they refused to compromise on standards.

She said: “I am very proud of ISL for finally winning the MILO tourney for Lagos state. With this victory, our resolve to always play by the rules has finally paid off.

“We will always ensure that only students that fall within the age limit and are in secondary schools in Lagos state would be registered for the championship in the future.

“My advice is that you should not relent on your effort next year. I want you to go for the title and hopefully, we would retain the title by this time next year.”
