Sport: Deaflympic Games, Team Nigeria Depart For Bulgaria

Nigeria’s Deaf Super Eagles have departed the country this morning for the 22th edition of Deaflympics holding in Sofia, Bulgaria from 26 July through 4 August.

In the football event, Nigeria will play against Ireland, Japan and Russia in Group C. Nigeria Deaf team will face Republic of Ireland on Thursday in the group opening match.

Head Coach of Deaf Eagles, Kamiludeen Oladimeji Banjo, told P.M.NEWS Sports that the team have prepared well and they are ready to go for victory  in their opening match against Ireland.

Banjo disclosed that the players were selected for the Deaflympics based on their current performance and commitment in the training.

Banjo also commended the National Sports Commission NSC, for their support throughout their training in Abuja.

Meanwhile, Director General of National Sports Commission, Gbenga Elegbeleye, charged the Deaf Eagles to go for victory in their opening match saying that falure to qualify for the medal zone will be  a huge disappointment.

In his own remark, Sports Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi who was on a short visit to the team in Abuja said he was hopeful that the team will do well at the tournament while urging the athletes to put up a good performance in order to achieve the target goal as Nigerians are relying on them for success.

However, Team Nigeria will competing in three sporting events; Table Tennis, Football and Athletics
