News: Students join calls for removal of Rivers’ police boss

As the Rivers State crisis escalates, students in the state have joined in calling for the removal of the state Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu.

The student leaders under the interest group, Rivers Leadership Advancement Foundation, RIVLEAF,  threatened, yesterday to take laws into their hands over the crisis, if relevant authorities fail redeploy Mbu out of the state.

Spokesman for RIVLEAF, Owhorkire Rhino accused the Police of being partisan in the Rivers saga, demanding his immediate redeployment.

Rhino who spoke after an emergency meeting of the body in Port Harcourt, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene by directing the Inspector General of Police to redeploy Mbu.

“We are peace loving youths, but we may be forced to take the laws into our hands. We don’t want him (Mbu). He is a political Police Commissioner on a mission to ruin Rivers State. The chaos at Rivers State House of Assembly is a shame and an embarrassment to the people of the state especially the youths and Mbu is just fanning the flaming fire.”
