News: Sambo, Shema battles over 2015 VP slot

Vice President Namadi Sambo and Katsina State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema are said to have been engaging in hide and seek over the vice presidential slot in 2015.

As the four governors reportedly gave conditions for reconciliation in the party, more facts emerged over the cold war between Governor Shema and Vice President Sambo and the alleged plot to upstage the number two citizen.

According to report by Nigerian Tribune, loyalists of the vice president had concluded that it was the Katsina governor that was behind the push to replace the vice president as a running mate to President Jonathan in 2015.

It was alleged that since Shema returned to the president’s camp, his conduct and scheming had confirmed his interest in the vice presidential seat or emerging the presidential candidate if the president opted not to run in 2015.

While Governor Shema had repeatedly denied the rumour, report gathered by Osun defender according to Nigerian Tribune has it that the four governors of Jigawa, Kano, Niger and Adamawa alleged to have fingered Governor Shema as responsible for the infighting between them and the presidency.

One of the four governors was said to have accused the Katsina governor of deepening the rift between them and the president, so as to further his ambition in 2015.

It was leanrt that the loyalists of the vice precedent had, since, taken other PDP governors in the North as allies, especially as they were also opposed to the alleged Shema‘s ambition.

A loyalist of the vice president and a chieftain of the PDP, Bishir Gambo Shuluwa, said the plot against the vice president was real, but noted that “President Jonathan won’t sacrifice a loyal and dependable ally like Sambo.

“It is an open secret here in the North. Some over-ambitious people want the vice president out. But we know the president won’t listen to them.

“Sambo enjoys the confidence of the North because of his inclusive attitude. We know the president won’t drop his close friend,” Shuluwa said.
