Government of the state of Osun has charged female engineers in the country to marshal new ways to tackle numerous technological problems plaguing the country.
This was disclosed by Commissioner for Information and Strategy, State of Osun, Mr Sunday Akere at the investiture ceremony for the first Ilesa chapter Chairman of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria.
According to the commissioner, technology is the trend in facets of lives that developed countries use in making life more abundant for their teeming citizenry, saying Nigerian engineers should try to develop new ways of making it useful to Nigerians.
He added sectors like Agriculture, medicine, water, information ,communication and road construction now apply technology to make life more meaningful to the people.
“Until developing countries take advantage of technological breakthrough ,we would continue to remain behind in infrastructural provision.
This is a challenge to female engineers across the country and you must rise to it for the benefit of the country as a whole”, Akere added.
He disclosed further that government of the state of Osun under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola realized the importance of technology and engineers, hence, its resolve to embark on world class road construction across the state.
While performing the investiture ceremony, the National President of the association, Engineer Olayinka Abdul, disclosed that the essence of the association is to help women achieve professional excellence, as well as project the profession as an instrument of improving quality of lives among the people.
In her inaugural speech, the Ilesa Chapter chairperson, Engineer Mojirade Oloruntoba said her leadership would ensure training and retraining of female engineers and encourage them to venture into engineering enterprise.
She added that the association would embark on massive enlightenment programme on the need to encourage the girl-child to harness her potentials to face challenges of life successfully.
She further disclosed that her association would work with the state government in making life more abundant for the ordinary people on the street.
Several female professionals delivered goodwill messages at the gathering among who were Engineer Tawakalitu Williams, Mrs Folashade Omole and Engineer A. Folowosele.
