News: Jonathan meets Daniel in Lagos amidst defection to LP rumour

Amidst reports that he may have concluded arrangements to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Labour Party (LP), former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, met with President Goodluck Jonathan in Lagos, on Saturday evening.

His visit to the president in the State House, Marina, may not be unconnected with the ongoing rumours surrounding his purported move to defect from the ruling party.

The former governor had been reported to have met with the national chairman of the LP, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, in Abuja, last week Thursday, apparently to actualise his desire to join the party.

The meeting, said to have taken place at the national headquarters of LP in Garki, Abuja, was said to have led PDP hierarchy to believe that Daniel’s exit from PDP was a fait accompli.

Though it was not known what Daniel discussed with the president, a PDP source told the Nigerian Tribune that Jonathan may have summoned him to discuss his possible defection from the party.

“The president is the leader of PDP. It is not unusual for him to meet with any member of the party which may have one or two issues.

“In any case, Daniel is still a member of PDP, because he has not told the party that he has defected,” the source stated.
