News: ExxonMobil, FRSC partner on road safety campaign

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Umuahia, Abia State in collaboration with ExxonMobil has commenced a month long safety awareness campaign for drivers and commuters in the state.

Addressing the participants on Friday, the Head of Operations, FRSC, Abia Command, Mr Robert Ogom said that safety on Nigerian roads should be the concern of everybody, irrespective of whether one owned a vehicle or not.


Ogom advised road users to avoid over speeding, wrong overtaking, phone calls while driving and to endeavour to use seat belts.

He commended the Exxon Mobil for sponsoring the campaign and urged other organisations to emulate the oil company in serving the society.

In his remarks, the leader of Exxon Mobil Road Safety Campaign, Mr Lawrence Eze said the campaign was designed to assist the FRSC to educate drivers and commuters on importance of safety principles.

He said that emphasis had shifted from educating motorists to commuters on road safety principles to reduce high rate of accident.

Eze said that the campaign was a month-long safety awareness campaign being carried out simultaneously throughout the federation.

According to him, the measure is to enable commuters to obey traffic rules as well as call reckless drivers to order.

Some participants at the programme, including Mr Chigozie Uba and Miss Amarachi Ugorji, commended the organisers for their efforts toward increasing road safety awareness in the state.

They said that they learnt new things about traffic rules, road worthiness and other things to look out for when boarding vehicles.
