The Jigawa Government has treated 86,000 children suffering from malnutrition in the last three years, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Lawal Abdu, said in Dutse on Monday.
Abdu made the fact known while inaugurating the committee on food and nutrition, adding that the goal was achieved with the support of development partners, such as UNICEF, Medicine Sans Frontiers (MSF) and ACF (Action Contra la Faim-Action Against Hunger).
He said that the steps that the government took to cure malnourished children had checked pre-mature deaths of children in the state.
Abdu said the present administration had upgraded nine basic health facilities and trained some health workers to tackle the problem of malnutrition.
He said the committee was charged to propose and review policies and programmes that had made impacts on food and nutrition.
In his remark, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Usman Tahir, promised to adhere to the terms of reference given to the committee.
