A Police Inspector and one other person suspected to be armed robber were killed on Tuesday during a bank robbery in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
A security source who spoke to Daily Independent said 15 gunmen stormed Unity Bank Alkaleri in the night and started shooting on security operatives but the security men at duty responded back immediately.
The gunmen later succeeded and gain entrance inside the bank but before they broke the bank vault reinforcement came and chased them away so they did not succeed in stealing money.
He added that during the shooting an Inspector of police was killed and one of the armed bandits killed while one was captured alive, saying “the one we captured took security men to their hide outs where they recovered five Ak 47 riffles, eight magazines, two IEDs, a forged police identity card and two GSM handsets. The captured suspect is helping security personnel in their investigation, the source said”.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Hassan Mohammed Auyo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said the State Commissioner of Police will brief journalists on the incident.
