Sea of Gulder Floods Port Harcourt

The Aztech Acrum on Stadium Road in Port Harcourt, a commonplace events venue took on another hue recently when Nigeria Breweries’ premium  lager, Gulder arrived at this ordinary place and turned it into an extraordinary set in the first leg of its widely advertised Gulder Club Ultimate. What used to be a 2000 capacity hall for socials was transformed into a lounge/club for one night of hectic partying like the Garden City has never seen before.

Channel O Presenter, Denrele Edun who hosted the show took his crazy disposition to another level. It was a credit to his  passion for invention that he was able to single-handedly retain a blaze of glorious fashion colours and witty anecdotes to hold the interest of his audience from the red-carpet to the party scene.

Like a chameleon, Denrele kept changing his bespoke jackets and weird footwears, some of which are rumoured to belong to his late friend, Goldie. At the last count, he had showcased nine different blazers designed by Remi Buttons. He wore four crazy and unique jackets on the red carpet and five other daring blazers during the entire event.

To get to the red-carpet, valued guests had to go through a tunnel filled with a sense of history. The passageway was crammed with memorabilia announcing the journey of Gulder through advertising copies and other publicity materials over the years. The journey back into time was only the beginning of a transfer that Gulder was prepared to take guests. The construction of a giant ship at the entrance of the Aztech Arcum was the most amazing novel means of consumer engagement that dazed the audience with many surprises.

The man behind the transformation, famed set-designer, Pat Nebo who previously worked with the NTA, AIT and now works on movie sets said he worked with the CEO of Oracle to berth the idea of a cruise ship that can transport Nigerians into an unknown world of entertainment. “It took one week to set it up in Port Harcourt, you can imagine how long it took to build. We were fighting against the elements, the rains,” he said.

Fully prepared for a clash with his colleague, Lagos-based DJ Humility,  fired the first shot for the party night with Wande Coal’s ‘The Kick’. Humility read the mood of the crowd correctly, as soon as the song dropped things began to happen on the dance floor. Every side of the  hall presented a different spectacle. Humility was suspended in mid-air on some kind of railing and a pulling system was used to roll him back and forth as he dished out hot tunes that burned the dance floor. Lolu Durojaiye whose company AV Edge Limited provided the multi-media, audio-visual and light effects said part of the whole experience was to make it larger than life. According to him, “people who came to the club get the feel good factor when they see themselves on large screen.”

Describing the experience, Port Harcourt based comedian, Yibo Koko said Club Ultimate was a fantastic success and that people will get attracted to the brand. Recording artiste, Mr. 2Kay whose real name is Abinye David Jombo welcomed Club Ultimate as nice and great and said that was why he came from Lagos to support his city. According to him, it was a wonderful idea from Gulder and wished that other brands would follow in that light; so that the city can witness events of that magnitude every month. Similarly, Tonye Ibiama, CEO of Grafton Records thanked Gulder for visiting Port Harcourt with the unexpected, “something never seen before in this part of the world. it does not have to be a concert all the time.”

Not to be outdone, Port Harcourt-based DJ Kelvin took his turn to reel out a string of current hit songs, including an apparent crowd favourite, Duncan Mighty’s ‘Port Harcourt Boy’.

Gulder Club Ultimate held the City of Port Harcourt spellbound with amazing dexterity. Making use of a powerful combination of technology, creativity, organized professionalism and an overriding desire to reinvent the Nigerian party experience, Gulder created what is without a doubt a new level of consumer engagement.

The action-packed occasion was deepened  by jaw-dropping turns in the air from an aerial acrobatic group from the USA which was further complimented by a series of breath taking illusions and performances by the powerful magician; Zeeto Peller and his gorgeous assistant. As thousands of people watched in disbelief , Zeeto, son of popular magician, Professor Peller made his sister and popular actress, Nike Peller disappear and appear.

Explaining his company’s involvement in this lifestyle event, Agu Emmanuel, marketing manager, Gulder, Legend and Life said Club Ultimate is simply a platform for the brand to connect with consumers in an unpredictable way. “Over the years,” he said, Gulder has been known for the Ultimate Search which enters its 10th year in 2013. He said the symbol of a ship in Port Harcourt conforms with the profile of the city as a coastal town. Going forward to another city, Gulder would continue its path finding attribute by inventing another representation that suits the image of the city.

Gulder Club Ultimate was attended by guests like Kunle Afolayan, Tee A, Yaw, Beverly Naya, Tunde Ednut, DJ Zeez among others.
