No plan to impeach deputy gov – Mimiko

Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko yesterday said the ruling Labour Party has no plan to impeach his Deputy, Alhaji Ali Olanusi contrary to speculations in the state.

Speaking to newsmen, the governor said there was no truth whatsoever in the rumour.

The governor said he was disturbed when some of his friends outside the shores of Nigeria called him that they heard it on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that his deputy was about to be impeached.

“As I am talking to you now, Alhaji Olanusi remained the deputy governor of Ondo State and there is no plan to impeach him,” he said.

The clarification also coincided with the statements of the Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dare Emiola and that of the Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Information, Oyebo Aladetan.

Aladetan said the report must have been a figment of the imagination of the people because there was no time such a matter was tabled for discussion on the floor of the House of Assembly.

Also, Emiola, who is from the same Akoko South West Local Government Area with the deputy governor, said the House had been on recess for over two weeks and the issue was not discussed before the Assembly went on recess.

Checks revealed that the speculations was induced by reports by a section of the media on the state of health of the deputy governor, suggesting that that he might no longer cope with the demands of the office.
