Police authorities in the northern Nigerian city of Kano said on Wednesday that 20 armed robbery suspects were arrested, while assorted exhibits including cars, motorcycles, guns, matchets and other dangerous weapons were recovered.The sate Commissioner of Police, Musa Daura who made this known to newsmen said the success recorded in a very short period of time was as a result of renewed raids and 24-hour patrol.
According to him, the feat was one of the most remarkable achievements and breakthrough by his command lately and commended the Kano public for their support and cooperation in terms of furnishing officers with timely and necessary information which accounted for the success.
The police chief said most of the paraded suspects were arrested for conspiracy to commit armed robbery while others were held for offences ranging from illegal possession of prohibited fire arms and theft of cars and motor-cycles, pointing out that they confessed their involvement in the said crimes.
Daura also recalled that in the mid August, detectives from the command arrested one Musa Ibrahim, Dauda Mohammed, Ali Sheriff, and Abdullahi Salisu for allegedly conspiring to form a gang of robbers which had been terrorizing residents of Kano city.
“They have all made confessional statements which led to the recovery of 2 Honda vehicles and dangerous weapons” said the commissioner, who also disclosed that his men sighted a Toyota liteace bus with five occupants at a village in Dawakin Tofa in a suspicious manner, “they were accosted and arrested, during interrogation, they confessed that their mission was to carry out a robbery operation in the area.
The police chief also said among suspects in police net was one Ibrahim salisu Aminu, a successful farmer who specializes in hiring young men for the purpose of stealing motor bike for him for a fee.
The suspect, he added confessed that prior to his arrest, he had 10 employees for that job while six stolen motor-cycles were recovered from him
