PRESIDENT of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) and Technical Director of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Dr Daniel Igali is continuing the fight to ensure that the sport that brought him fame and dignity is reinstated among the Olympic Sports by the International Olympic
Committee (IOC) as he flies out at the end of the month to  Buenos Aires to meet with four other members of the team for the final presentations.

Dr Igali, a former wrestler who won a gold medal for his adopted country, Canada in the 2000 Sydney Games was one of the five panelists selected for the Sports Accord Conference in St Petersburg Russia, where they addressed the International Olympic Committee Executive Board on the need to reinstate wrestling in the Olympics.

He said, “ I will be leaving for Buenos Aires by the end of August to meet up the other four members of the team to make a final pitch to the IOC executive commission to retain wrestling as an Olympic sport in 2020. There are two other sports, softball/baseball and squash were also shortlisted for final consideration in September in Buenos Aires.”

Igali’s team members include, the International Wrestling Federation President Nenad Lalovic from Serbia, Jim Scherr from the USA, Carol Hunyh from China/Canada, and a lady from France.

He also expressed a strong belief that other IOC members from every wrestling nation would vote against the proposal of the executive committee.
