A customer (names withheld) has narrated how he was attacked at the Piano Lounge of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. He alleged that he was attacked and stabbed twice on the chest in the full glare of staff and security operatives of the hotel who he claimed did nothing to stop the attacker or defend him.
Narrating his ordeal he said, “I came to the hotel and was served like every other customer. Suddenly a man whose name I later learnt was Alhaji Lawal Garba, who was also drinking at the Lounge, started making trouble with some foreigners whose identities were not established before they left the hotel hurriedly.
“At first I was surprised that the staff and security men on duty at the hotel did not know about the development.
“The said Alhaji Lawal Garba came to the table where I was sitting and ceased my two packets of cigarette and lighter and started spitting all around and causing nuisance.
“I called on the waitress on duty to carry my drink to another table or in the alternative relocate the man to another table. Before I knew it, he stood up, picked a bottle of Gulder and smashed it on my head. As if that was not bad enough, he took the remaining sharp neck of the broken bottle and stabbed me twice on my chest with the intention of murdering me. Miraculously, the bottle could not penetrate my body.
He said that the hotel staff and the security men who were present at the scene of the incident did not deem it proper to restrain or arrest the said Alhaji Lawal or even report him to the police or the other law enforcement agents.
He said, “The staff instead of calling on security guards to arrest the culprit, Alhaji Lawal Garba, came to me and demanded I go out and meet the culprit outside, who had already dashed out of the piano lounge without restrictions from the security men. The security people asked me to leave the seat so as not to stain the hotel’s cushion with the blood that oozed out from my wounded arm.
When LEADERSHIP contacted the hotel’s corporate communication manager, Shola Adeyemo, said that the hotel management received a report of an altercation between two guests at the piano lounge.
“Management is investigating the incident to determine the cause,” he stated.
