If the statements recently credited to the ex-Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development under the disgraced administration of Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Mr Adetoyese Ojo,
that a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Iyiola Omisore, used his influence to get the monthly allocation of the state of Osun jerked up from N2 billion to N6 billion and that the administration of Ogbeni Aregbesola has borrowed up to N300bn since its inception, were true, then his claims were the height of falsehood, hypocrisy and shamelessness.
For Adetoyese to have attributed increase in Osun’s monthly allocation to Omisore’s influence – Omisore, a man whose name is never associated with anything good – was to have fed the public untruth while to have claimed that the debt profile of the state of Osun has reached N300bn was to have lied against his own conscience. Now the fundamental question that arises on the basis of these baseless and unfounded claims coming from Adetoyese is; Who could ever come up with such claims if not a mean and highly unscrupulous element like him? And this is why we are little surprised.
As an enlightened person, it will be preposterous for Adetoyese to claim ignorance of the fact that the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is the body saddled with the responsibility of handling issues relating to review and enhancement of states’ revenue and there are criteria the body considers before it could make an upward review of the revenue of any state in the federation. These criteria, according to the current Commissioner for Finance in the state, Dr. Wale Bolorunduro, include inter alia; population figure, public school enrolment, hospital and hospital beds. Thus what this means is that there are processes for increasing a state’s revenue by RMAFC. Logically it means that any state that is able to meet the set out parameters amongst which are stated above will enjoy upward review of its monthly allocation and vice-versa.
It therefore goes without argumentation that if the state of Osun’s monthly allocation has increased under Ogbeni Aregbesola, the state has met the conditions set out by RMAFC especially in the area of public school enrolment, more hospitals and hospital beds. Everybody knows that these two sectors – education and health – are very central to Aregbesola’s policy thrust as enshrined in his Six-Point-Integral-Action-Plan. In contradistinction to Oyinlola’s era of the locusts however, these conditions were lacking during his regime and thus the reason why the state couldn’t enjoy revenue increment then is quite clear. Thus, that the state’s monthly allocation has increased is unarguably due to Aregbesola’s impressive performance especially in the two key areas mentioned above making the state to be so considered. It’s a feat that came about by merit but not that one Omisore influenced it.
It needs be made categorically clear, and without any fear of contradiction that if anyone would influence something positive to favour the state it would not be an Omisore whom the whole world knows represents centrifugal forces and whose agents have wrought no any good on the state but violence and disharmony. How could such a man have influenced increase in the state’s revenue allocation? Let Adetoyese tell that to the marine!
Finally on Adetoyese’s claim that the state has borrowed up to N300bn under the administration of Ogbeni, the ex-Commissioner has committed a faux pas as this is equally baseless and unfounded. We wonder why an Accountant would not verify his facts before coming out to the public to make claim. But like we stated above we are little surprised because birds of the same feather flock together. The Osun PDP – having failed woefully for seven and a half years in government – is now enamoured with peddling rumour and telling lies with the aim of covering up its years of non-performance. Alas, our people cannot forget the years when the locusts ate. Thus a fortiori let the ilk of Adetoyese come up with whatever lie and whichever rumour – as it suits their mouths – against the progressive administration of Ogbeni Aregbesola, our people have resolved; Never again shall the party of vampires rule us in the state of the Virtuous!
