The aggressive, rock infused song has been used in a trailer for video game Call of Duty: Ghosts and is the first taste of what to expect when the 40-year-old rapper drops his eagerly anticipated new album later this year.
Featuring vocals from Skylar Grey, Survival sees Eminem back on form as he prepares to release his first collection of fresh material since the release of 2010 album Recovery.
That LP featured collaborations with the likes of Pink, Lil Wayne and Rihanna – whose duet on Love the Way You Lie earned them a number one hit in twenty countries and Eminem a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.
Further details about the new album – including a title and official release date - are yet to be revealed, but the rapper will be hoping to replicate the success of his last release when it finally drops.
Speaking NME, record producer Alchemist – a long term collaborator – said that Eminem was ‘just getting back on his feet’ with his last two records, Recovery and its 2009 predecessor, Relapse.
Of what to expect from the album he said: ‘Clearly going to further territories. I think what you would expect, especially after the last go-round.
He was just getting his feet back on Relapse and then Recovery just came with the smash hits and everything and I think now – he’s Eminem.’
Artists expected to feature on the new record include Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar, while comedian Chris Rock is also said to be making an appearance.
Dr. Dre - instrumental in launching Eminem's career back in the late 90's - recently confirmed that his friend was close to finishing work on the new record.
'Em is finishing up his project. And for me, I've just got inspired again to go back into the studio,' he said. 'I'm just really having fun with life and having fun with being creative and trying new and different things with myself.'
Speaking earlier this year, Shady Records President Paul Rosenberg said the album will be released ‘post-Memorial Day.’
