Drug Abuse Fuelling Boko Haram, Kidnapping - Gov Nyako

Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako has reiterated the resolve of his administration to free the state from drugs in order to reduce the rate of crime and violent activities of hoodlums.


The governor said the Boko Haram debacle being experienced in the north, militancy being experienced in the South South, kidnapping being experienced in the South East and armed robbery being experienced in the South West are the major effects of drug consumption in the country stressing that all hands must be on deck to arrest the situation before it engulfs the whole country.

He said his administration has waged sustained efforts to blocking the routes through which drugs are being shipped into the state and tracking and confiscating it from peddlers in the event it gained entry into the state.

Nyako however noted that in order to prevent the youths who are mostly vulnerable to drug abuse, his government has floated various Skills acquisition and vocational training Centers across the state which has succeeded in engaging many youths in productive ventures that has weanthemed from drug consumption.

He said for any government to succeed in the war against crime, there should be a genuine effort in the provision of job opportunities which will take the minds of people off anti social vices. “For us to succeed in the war against crime, we should ensure that genuine efforts are geared towards the provision of job opportunities for all and sundry,” he added.
