Anenih is an epitome of loyalty, patriotism, committed service - Jonathan

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has described Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, who clocks 80 today, as an epitome of the noble ideals of resilience, steadfastness, loyalty, patriotism, courage and committed service.

Jonathan in a birthday message to Anenih said that these attributes were sorely required in our nation for the needed national transformation.

“To many across the length and breadth of Nigeria, you symbolise the exciting possibilities which lie ahead of us as a nation if only we commit to building bridges of love and harmony across the artificial divides that have been erected over the years,” he said.

Declaring that Anenih is an enduring inspiration, Jonathan prayed that God would continue to prosper and bless him with robust health.

In his message, Senate President, Senator David Mark noted with pride Anenih’s immeasurable contributions to the development of the nation.

According to Mark, “You have remained a strong and dependable pillar for our people; and it is my sincere hope and prayer that God in His infinite mercies continues to grant you good health, wisdom and courage to always do the needful in the years ahead.”

Also, the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur said Anenih had, through hard work, dedicated and selfless service to the nation, portrayed himself as “a patriotic Nigerian, elder statesman, first-class nationalist, quintessential leader, emancipator, political strategist and an astute administrator whose vision is to make Nigeria one united and indivisible entity within an egalitarian status where there will be no class distinction.”

Tukur added: “Your business acumen is unrivalled, political sagacity unequalled, economic stance outstanding, social comportment and decorum overwhelming.”

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar said “you have bestridden the landscape like a colossus.  Your words, as few as they were in most cases, carried very enormous weight in the political space of the country.

“Your interventions at critical points in the nation’s numerous political cross-roads have been hailed as the solution, hence you are a dependable adviser to many leaders.”

Business mogul, Aliko Dangote also praised the sterling qualities of Anenih, saying “you have proven to be a real man of honour, true nationalist and a colossus in the Nigerian political terrain.”

He said Anenih’s sterling records at this special age were most remarkable and remained unrivalled, stressing, “You have been a role model to many admirers especially in the national and international communities, an embodiment of diligence, hard work, integrity and perseverance.”

“We are proud to be associated with you and it is our prayer that the Almighty God will grant you continued wisdom, strength and good health in the years that lie ahead.  Your sterling achievements in all facets of life have continued to distinguish you as a true and effective leader,” Dangote stated.

Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral D.J. Ezeoba said Anenih’s life had been a testimony of selfless service given the significant contribution he had made to the development of the nation and humanity.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, in a message written on his behalf and the people of Ife by the Secretary to the House of Oduduwa, High Chief J.O. Ijadola (JP), the Lowa of Ife, described Anenih as a distinguished nationalist, an elder statesman, an acknowledged political strategist who is kindhearted, cool, calm and very collected.  He prayed that he would enjoy long life in the service of the nation.
