Anambra kidnapped monarchs regain freedom

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State on Tuesday said the two traditional rulers, kidnapped in the state, had regained their freedom.

The governor stated this while addressing traditional rulers and community leaders at the Women Development Centre in Awka.

The abduction of the monarchs – Igwe Mike Okechukwu of Awgbu, and Igwe Goddy Mbakwe of Abacha – took place two weeks ago.

Their abductors also took away the new Sport Utility Vans recently given to them by the state government.

Obi, who did not give details of how the monarchs regained freedom, however, promised that the security agencies would arrest the kidnappers and their collaborators.

The governor said, “I will get all of them. It is just a matter of time. We will treat them the way they deserve to be treated when we get them.”

Obi, who said the news of the kidnap of the traditional rulers troubled him, vowed that he would go to any length to secure the state against criminals.

He added, “I will go to any extent to ensure that life is made comfortable for the people of the state.”
