After a long preparation and re-enforcement, the 2013/2014 English Premier League (EPL) season got underway last weekend with a lot of frill, thrill and heartbreaking results. Former Everton manager, David Moyes made a winning start as Manchester United manager with the champions cruising to a comfortable opening day victory at Swansea City.
Moyes has been handed the task of defending Red Devils’ title following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement after 26 years at the end of last season. Jose
Mourinho also made a winning Premier League start on his second coming to Chelsea as manager, while Manuel Pallegrini as well make a wining debut with Manchester City. Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger was the only one on the loser side among top teams. Liverpool and Tottenham also won their opening game respectively.
The reputed most exciting and lucrative league in the world-would enter second week this weekend with nine matches on the card. However, analysts and football fans alike will wait till Monday before watch the first biggest tie of the season between two top title contestants, Manchester United and Chelsea at the Old Trafford. Both clubs kicked off its respective league seasons with victories, Chelsea earned a 2-0 home win over newly promoted Hull City while the defending champions Manchester United silenced the critics that are calling for a down year with a convincing 4-1 victory over Swansea City. This is a very interesting scenario that both the Blues and Red Devils find itself in, as the main storyline surrounding both clubs is the rumors of potential signing of England forward Wayne Rooney by the London club, as the maligned Englishmen has wanted a move away from the Old Trafford over the off-season and has now become a distraction.
This would not only be an entertaining match due to the storylines but also the talents on display, with an interesting options available to both managers. Jose Mourinho could chilling the prospect of play any combination of Fernando Torres, Oscar, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle, Romelu Lukaku, Demba Ba and Victor Moses, all of that said none of these players are Robin Van Persie. The Dutchmen has carried on where he had left off last season scoring two goals against the Swansea on the opening day of the league and given that Chelsea’s defensive unit is already aging with players like John Terry, Petr Cech and Ashley Cole, it will be a difficult prospect for the Blues to contend with last season’s leading scorer.
This is an incredibly difficult match to predict because both Jose Mourinho and David Moyes would have a lot to answer in their new managerial spells. Not only do they have to fuse up their respective squads’ into a harmonious army, but are also expected to lead their teams into an era of glory and dominance.
Moyes having failed to win a single trophy with Everton in his 10 years at the helm, can now have the dream of winning his first Premier League medal with the most decorated club in the League.
Jose Mourinho is a no stranger to successes. The Portuguese think-tank returns to a club where he has left a legacy, no one has been able to excel or even match. Jose has won on various shores, but has rarely received the love he got at Chelsea. But now, that love would be conditional; he has to deliver what he made the Chelsea fans get accustomed to trophies and results.
Heading a transitional Chelsea team, that is capable of dominating world football, at least on paper, Mourinho has to infuse into them consistency and confidence, the things that marred their campaign last Season under interim coach, Rafael Benitez.
