Sport: Moyes stands firm on Rooney, saying: Nothing has changed, Wayne is STILL not for sale.

Manchester United are hoping for a breakthrough in their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas in the next 48 hours.

The Barclays Premier League champions are waiting to hear back from Barcelona after submitting a bid of £26m for the Spanish international midfielder three days ago.

With chief executive Ed Woodward back in the UK working on the deal, manager David Moyes remains optimistic.

Moyes told a press conference in Sydney today: 'The chief exec  has been dealing with it just now and I am in contact with him.
'I'll hopefully know a little more in the next day or so. I may have a bit more information in the next day or so about how it's going.

'As far as players we’re looking to bring in, we're trying very hard to make some additions to the squad.
'Hopefully there'll be some good news in the not too distant future.'

United face a team of top players from the Australian A-League at the ANZ Stadium before heading on to Tokyo on Sunday.

Moyes confirmed today that striker Robin van Persie would play some part in tomorrow night’s game after joining the squad this week.

The United manager said: 'We've enjoyed having Robin here. He met up with us when we arrived in Sydney.
'He was a massively important part of Manchester United last season and I'm hoping he'll have just as big an influence this season.

'We'll probably only use Robin in the second half. We've over-trained him this week to make sure he builds up his fitness.
'We've not come with a massive squad so that means everyone will play some time.

'Well, that's the plan. I wanted all the players to get 90 minutes.
