The Benue State Police Command said it has recovered four bodies from Ochologologwu and Enogaje villages in Agatu Local Government Area of the state few hours after the invasion of the communities by suspected Fulani mercenaries.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Ezeala, said more officers and men had also been deployed to the communities to ensure peace.
Ezeala who spoke to newsmen on phone, Monday, in Makurdi said: “Four corpses have been recovered from the affected villages.
“As I speak to you, normalcy is gradually returning to the affected villages. We urged the people to remain calm because the Police have already taken steps to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
Also speaking on the development, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. John Ngbede, who hails from the council area said thousands of people had been displaced from their homes as a result of the attack.
He said government was already taking steps to ensure the safety of the people of the area and assured of adequate security of the council area.
Vanguard recalls that two villages, Ichogolugu and Enogaje in Agatu local government area of the state were last Sunday attacked by suspected Fulani herdmen which left eight persons dead with several houses and farmland destroyed by the invaders.
