Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday announced the arrest of two persons, including a Cape Verdean over the importation of 2kg of cocaine into Nigeria.
Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, spokesman for the agency, said this in statement.
He said that the drug was found hidden in female handbags during the screening of Emirates airline passengers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
“The 35 year old Cape Verdean, Rosangela Gomes Gonealves Correia and 36 year old Nigerian (named withheld) are currently explaining their roles in the illicit import.
“The Cape Verdean whose statement was obtained through Portuguese language interpreter has provided useful information to the anti-narcotic investigators,” he said.
He said that the agency was working toward the arrest and prosecution of other members of the drug cell.
