A housewife and a native of Ebu near Asaba in Delta State and two native doctors are now held by the police at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over their alleged ploy for money rituals that backfired.

The woman suspect identified as Ifeoma (surname withheld) had been allegedly indebted to many of her customers at the popular Ogbeogonogo modern market in Asaba where she trades on foodstuff including prepared ‘Santana’ popularly known as “Akpu”.

ASP Lucky Uyabeme, police spokesman in the state, confirmed that the woman, a mother of three was introduced to the native doctors in Somorika, Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State where she asked them to assist her with money to offset her debt.

The native doctors allegedly asked the woman to produce a female child between nine and 10 years old for a ritual exercise and promised to pay her N200,000.

Uyabeme said that upon interrogation after her arrest on a tip-off in Akoko-Edo, she confessed to the crime of how she scarified her mate’s daughter for the process, adding that the native doctors attempted to make love to her and upon her refusal she got into the mess.

On June 6, 2013, the suspect reportedly hoodwinked the mate’s daughter with the consent of her unsuspecting mother to accompany her to Benin market where she would buy farm produce for resale.
