News: Robbery Gang Terrorises Oko-Oba Residents

It was a sad tale to tell for some residents of Olasoji Street, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, when a gang of armed robbers invaded the street early today and carried out a house to house operation that lasted  more than one hour.

Before today’s attack, the robbers had visited the street twice in the last three months, but the latest attack was more violent as the robbers numbering at least 20, robbed at least five houses on the street.
They carted away valuables such as cash, laptops, handsets and expensive ornaments.

Among the victims attacked was Mr. Taiwo Adelu, Sports Editor of P.M.NEWS/TheNEWS, who was robbed of his cash and handsets.
Narrating his ordeal during the robbery operation, he said: “It’ll be hard for me to forget the nightmare so soon because this was the first time I and my family would be victims of a robbery operation. The robbers were  young boys who probably were under 30. They came to our compound around 2a.m and attacked us with impunity. They moved  from house to house in the darkness of the night because there was no electricity supply.

“The only things they were after were money, handsets, laptop and jewellery. The three of them that violently forced their way into my apartment told me and my family to lie down at gun point before they robbed me of the sum of N20,000, a blackberry  and Nokia phones.

“My reluctance to do their bidding earned me a big blow in the face. Immediately the robbers left after the operation, the electricity supply was restored by the PHCN and a police team with two vans arrived, as if the two parties collaborated with the gangsters.”

Adelu, who has swollen lips to show for the attack by the robbers, also said one of his neighbours who attempted to resist the robbers was stabbed, while a landlord who prevented them from entering his house was attacked with a machete on the head.
“One of my neighbours was not so lucky as he and his brother living with him not only lost valuables, but were badly injured because they fought with the robbers,” he said.
