News: Four-day old baby found in sewage pit

DIVINE providence prevented a four-day old baby from dying after being thrown into a sewage pit by a woman believed to be a teenage mother in Ibadan.

According to information gathered, it was the persistent cry of the baby that attracted a passer-by who called the attention of a woman.


The baby was said to have been rescued from the sewer at the Salvation Primary School, Kube,  Atenda on Saturday.

As at the time of filing this report, the identity of the woman was not known.

The  Chairman, Landlord Association, Kube – Atenda, Chief Odeyale said,  “It was one of the community leaders Alhaja Sariyu Olaniyan that called me that a boy came to him that there is a baby crying in the toilet”.

“We have to break the soak-away before we were able to bring her up”. We later took her to University College Hospital (UCH) emergency unit; it was there they referred us to the child Care Unit at Otunba Tunase, we spent more than an hour there. But we thank God that the baby is still much alive”.

“The baby has since been in the custody of the Child Care Unit of Juvenile/ Correctional Institution, Poly- Eleyele road in Ibadan for proper care.

Alhaja Sariyu Olaniyan, whose attention was drawn to the helpless baby, advised parents to be watchful and monitor their daughters whenever they conceived.
