The factional Chairman of APGA, Chief Maxi Okwu, said in Enugu on Thursday that the party would challenge the July 15 Appeal Court judgment against it.
Okwu told newsmen that the judgement, which nullified a high court judgment against the faction led by Chief Victor Umeh, was unacceptable.
“We note that the judgment of the Court of Appeal was essentially based on the threshold issue of what lawyers call locus standi.
“The Court was of the view that Ichie Okuli Jude Ejike lacked this necessary capacity without which a suit cannot be brought.
“Secondly, the Court of Appeal was also of the view that party matters are essentially domestic issues and should not be litigated.
“We strongly disagree with this position and our team of able solicitors has been instructed by us to challenge this position at the Supreme Court.’’
Okwu said the faction would pursue its victory politically through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and legally.
“We are firmly resolved that APGA must move on and persons with a penchant to perpetuate themselves in office or truncate the visions of the founding fathers of the party would not succeed,’’ he said.
On the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra, the chairman said he would submit the name of the party’s candidate for the election, noting that the crisis would soon be resolved in their favour.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some party loyalists were present at the briefing.
