News: Amaechi and Wike supporters clash in Rivers again

The state of insecurity in Rivers state is worsening on a daily basis ever since the face-off between the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the minister of state for education, Nyesom Wike.

On Sunday in Buguma, supporters of Amaechi and those of Wike clashed in Buguma, the headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of the state.

It was the day set aside for the inauguration of the ward executives of the minister’s political structure in the local government – Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI). As Wike and his supporters arrived in the town to inaugurate the ward executives of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), a political structure set up by the minister, they were confronted by Amaechi’s supporters.

The incident was however contained by the men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) stationed outside the community and no life was lost.

During the event, Wike urged the people of the state to recall members of the state House of Assembly if the House of Representatives eventually takes over the functions of the House, saying that the Reps’ move showed that leadership had collapsed in the state.
