News: Alleged serial robber remanded

An Ikeja Magistrate Court, Thursday, ordered that a 24-year-old man Ebuka Duru, described as a serial armed robber be remanded in prison custody, over alleged armed robbery.

Duru and others at large who was arraigned before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe, is facing a five-count charge bordering on  stealing and  armed robbery, preferred against him by the police.

The police Prosecutor Iranus Nnamonu, said that the accused committed the crime on March 19, 2013, at about 10:30pm at Lawanson street Lagos , conspired with others at large to rob one Emebo Anthony of a Toyota Camry saloon car with registration BDG 756 BD, valued at N1,500,000.

Nnamonu, alleged that Duru, also robbed one Isiaka Ajakayi, of his Honda Accord Saloon Car, with registration CW 492 FST valued at N1,200,000.

He also told the court that the suspect and others stole one Toyota Privia with registration SMK 516 AH, worth N1,500,000.

The prosecutor said that the defendant on the same day robbed an owner of a Volkswagen Vanagon Bus with registration ABJ 574 XC, valued N1,200,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to section 5 (a) and punishable under section 2 (a) (b) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. 398, Vol. XXii, laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 as amended.

However when the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the five – count charge, but his plea was not taken, as Magistrate Komolafe, ordered that he should be remanded to prison, pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

She further adjourned the case to August, 8, 2013, for DPP’s legal advice.
