Gossip: Body found for a missing 14-year-old girl who was swimming off south Wales coast

Police investigating the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl who went missing at a seaside resort have found a body in the sea.

Hollie McClymont, from Glasgow, has not been seen since she went swimming off Barry Island in South Wales last Sunday.


Today a body was found in the water seven miles from the beach at Whitmore Bay where the schoolgirl was last seen.

Chief Inspector Marc Lamerton, of South Wales Police, said: 'The family of Hollie McClymont, who was reported missing on Sunday afternoon, have been informed of this development and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.'
He said the body had not yet been formally identified.

More than 40 specialist officers were deployed in the search for the missing teenager, as well as a helicopter and coastguards.

Hollie, a pupil at St Thomas Aquinas school in Glasgow, was on a week-long break visiting family in Wales, was seen getting into difficulty while swimming in the sea.

The coastguard was called after reports she was struggling just off the coast at Whitmore Bay at Barry Island, near Cardiff.

Hollie had travelled with friends and family from her home in Glasgow to the beach resort for a three week holiday.

She was staying in the seaside town - known as home of television sitcom Gavin and Stacey - with her mother Sarah and extended family.
