Ramadan: Pray For Nigeria, First Lady Urges Nigerians

First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan yesterday urged Nigerians, especially  Muslims to intensify prayers for the unity, peace and progress of the nation.


In her Sallah message signed by her Director of Information, Mrs. A. O. Adesugba, Mrs Jonathan who felicitated with Muslims in the country on the completion of the Ramadan fasting and the celebration of Eid-el Fitri, enjoined them “to use the occasion of the Sallah celebrations to renew their commitment by being good ambassadors of their religion by their deed and speech.”

She further urged them to continually uphold the injunctions and sacred teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed by demonstrating the virtues of peace, tolerance, compassion and charity towards one another”, she added.

The statement made available to LEADERSHIP Friday reads in part: “Dame Patience, who is also the President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission, noted that women have an important role to play in their communities as the vanguards of promoting peace and social harmony.

She advised Nigerians to teach their children the significance of prayer and the importance of humility, integrity and peaceful coexistence.  She asks all Nigerians to join hands and work collectively in order to build a strong nation of our dreams.
